We were blessed with a visit from Jessica Rogers, Burnham’s Carnival Queen, for this year’s Face your on-line fears event. She helped to set up the computers, and talked to the Ukonline centre’s clients before leaving for a prior appointment.
We also received a visit from Tessa Munt, the newly elected Wells Constituency MP, on Friday 11th June. Tessa was unable to attend on our special day, so she paid us a visit on Friday

Volunteers honored at Burnham Area Youth Centre 2012 AGM
Left to right: Burnham Mayor Ken Smout, committee member Pheobe Harling, Peter Slocombe, Committee member and volunteer maintenance team member Jim Frape, Chair of Sedgemoor District Council Gill Slocombe, Cllr Neville Jones, and BAY Chair Julia Elswood. The AGM was chaired efficiently by Managing Trustee Cllr Neville Jones, and visitors were able to hear how the building is financially stable with over nineteen regular user groups. At the end of the meeting, Jim Frape was presented with a luxury hamper as a token of thanks for his family’s devotion to keeping the roof watertight, until finance is available for the proposed roof replacement. After the meeting, Cllr Gill Slocombe was given a tour of the building, and light refreshments were served. More information about the BAY Centre is available on website: www.baycentre.org.uk, and a strong emphasis is placed on Computer technology, with free wifi available throughout the building, and regular Computing help available to all at the Friday UK Online computing sessions. Please note: The BAY Centre is a registered Charity, and day-to-day running costs are met by the community groups using the building by way of rent, or contributions towards running costs. We are however presently seeking grant aid to recover the building’s roof which is starting to show it’s age of forty-six years. |
